FAQ
Most frequent questions and answers
The NHS now asks us to provide a fixed, limited amount of NHS care each year and so we have to allocate our time and our NHS budget accordingly.
You can choose which dentist you would like to see at the practice, but it may not always be possible to arrange this because the particular dentist may not have any NHS time available.
Private care
NHS patients can opt to have part of their treatment privately. Private treatment gives you more time with your dentist as well as personal service, greater choice of materials and higher quality laboratory work for a better aesthetic result. There is also a greater range of treatment options available as cosmetic treatment excluded from the NHS. Because the charges are changing, some private treatment may even be cheaper.
If you are a Dental Plan member or on a private scheme, you can book an appointment with any dentist at the practice.

Q: What happens if I miss my appointment or cancel within 24 hours?
A: If you have to cancel an appointment, we require 24 hours’ notice. This enables us to make alternative arrangements, and perhaps see someone in pain.
If an appointment is broken or canceled without 24 Hours’ notice, we may be unable to provide you with any NHS care in the future.
A charge will also apply for any private appointment missed or canceled within 24 hours’ notice.
Q: Do my dental team undergo any training?
A: The dentists who work at Chapel Park Dental Practice are fully qualified. They work with the dental nurses and receptionists as a team, and undergo continuous training to maintain and improve our Standard of Care and Service. The dentists take part in postgraduate education, covering a wide range of dental fields. Regular clinical meetings enable team members to share their experiences and ideas, which improve our standard of patient care.
Q: What emergency services are available?
A: If you are in pain during surgery hours, please contact us, and every effort will be made to see you as soon as possible.

NHS Dental Charges
Under the NHS the charge you pay depends upon the treatment you need to keep your mouth healthy. NHS treatment uses a banding system and includes 3 bands:
Band 1 – £23.80
This covers an examination, diagnosis (eg X-rays), advice on how to prevent future problems, a scale and polish (if needed) and application of fluoride varnish or fissure sealant.
Band 2 – £65.20
This covers everything included in band 1, plus any further treatment such as fillings, root canal work or if your dentist needs to extract on or more of your teeth.
Band 3 – £282.80
This covers everything listed in Bands 1 and 2, plus crowns, dentures and bridges.
These prices are correct as of April 2019.
