- Check your teeth for caries (decay).
- Look inside your mouth at your tongue, your cheek and lips, the roof of your mouth, and the back of your throat to make sure everything is healthy.
- Look for oral cancer.
- Perform all necessary x-rays, to ensure there aren't any hidden caries (decay) or infection.
- Check your general medical condition to ensure the treatment you receive is correct for you.
There are different degrees of examination depending on how extensive a treatment you may need. After the check-up, your dentist will inform you if you need any treatment. He/She will discuss any different treatment options with you to decide which option will be best for you. You will be given a written treatment plan and estimate to take home. Your dentist will arrange further appointments, if necessary, to carry out the treatment.
